Summary/Reader Response Draft 1

The article “Spray-on, Rinse Off Food ‘Wrapper’, Can Cut Plastic Packaging” written by Jones (2022), introduces a revolutionary solution which is capable of food preservation whilst being environmentally friendly. Most of the packaging that is used in our modern world does an excellent job in preserving the cleanliness of our food which prevents food-related illnesses. However, this comes at the cost of a large amount of plastic being thrust into our environment. With the introduction of this new spray-on wrapper, we can greatly reduce our carbon footprint by cutting down on the extensive amounts of plastic being used today. The way this wrapper works is that a biodegradable fibre, pullulan, is sprayed on the food through the “focused rotary jet spinning” (FRJS) mechanism which can easily be washed off upon consumption.  The fibre has been “generally recognized as safe” (GRAS) by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. With its organic antimicrobial substance, an experiment has proven t

The fiber is edible, portrays antimicrobial properties and is easily washed off upon consumption. An experiment on avocados has proven that the spray-on coating is able to keep fruits fresh for an extended period of time, which reduces foo

Formal Letter (Descriptive Reflection)

Dear Professor Brad, My name is Dora Chong from group 14 of your Critical Thinking and Communication seminar. I am writing this letter as an opportunity for you to know me better.  Growing up, I have always looked up to my father who is an engineer. The idea of finding solutions and making things work excites me. I excel in mathematics in school; the thrill of solving problems drove me to pursue an education in engineering, particularly the field of aerospace as I am intrigued by how such a massive vehicle can glide in the sky for long hours with the use of meticulous calculations, laws of physics, and more. I graduated with a diploma in Aerospace Technology a year ago. Aerospace is a sub-field of mechanical engineering, hence in hopes to broaden my knowledge, I decided to further my studies in the latter.  I struggle with articulating my thoughts properly. Although I have improved fairly much over the years, I still lack confidence in speaking. I am unconfident in my enunciation

Reaction to "Critical Thinking: The Soul of Communication"

After reading the article on Critical Thinking: The Soul of Communication, I am convinced that communication is key. It is one of the most important life skills especially in social context. Humans are social animals, hence communication is important for survival, easily one of the first few skills we pick up as a newborn. As we grow older, we cultivate skills and become better with communication. Having great content makes us communicate well. Critical thinking is the power house for meaningful conversations. The analysis of details of a critically thinking mind generates information for a broader prospective to issues. This in turn prompts relevant content to communicate. The better someone is at thinking critically, the greater he/she is at communicating. Thinking critically enables us to speak confidently too. Communication becomes increasingly common as we meet more people especially at workplaces. Communication between employees allows goals and standards to be established, a

Paraphase of Professional Quote

Quote "Employers identify communication as one of the basic competencies every graduate should have, asserting that the ability to communicate is valuable for obtaining employment and maintaining successful job performance.” Sherwyn Morreale, Michael Osborn & Judy Pearson, Professors of Communication (2000) Paraphrase: Employers value communication skills because it is essential in workplaces to enhance productivity, efficiency, and performance.
